This Drug is Used as a Maintenance Therapy of Psychotic Disorders, Especially Schizophrenia.

Side Effects

This Drug Can Have a Number of Side Effects Including Decreased Wbc's, Increased Prolactin Hormones, Abnormality of Muscle Tone, Abnormality of Voluntary Movements, Restlessness, Parkinsonism, Drowsiness, Insomnia, Agitation, Increased Heart Rate, Arrhythmia, Decreased Blood Pressure, Dry Mouth, Blurred Vision, Respiratory Depression, Nasal Stuffiness, Rash, Photosensitivity, Increased Blood Glucose, Impaired Temperature Regulation, and Male Sexual Dysfunction.

Contraindications:

The Patients With Heart and Hepatic (Liver) Impairment, History of Recent Myocardial Infarction, Severe Mental Disturbances, and Porphyria (Liver Disorders Causing Increased Sun Sensitivity).

Warning

Patients With a History of Seizures Should Be Followed Closely When Nortriptyline is Administered, Since Nortriptyline is Known to Lower the Seizure Threshold.
